Song of the week - Too Nice to Talk To by The Beat

I don't mind hearing 'new' old stuff, but I normally run a mile from musical nostalgia for its own sake. But The Beat came within half a mile of our local town centre last week, so we went along to check them out. Well, it was a version thereof, Saxaless and with Ranking Roger taking Wakeling's lead vocal with son Matthew "Ranking Junior" Murphy in assistance. It was all perfectly agreeable too, and it was good to be reminded of just how great their (first) three albums were. The best of the supposed ska bands, but so much more than that, so inventive and sharp. Superb use of Gold Coast guitar stylings and quasi-Afrobeat sax on this timeless beauty.
